The Team USA skier has been training long and hard for the 2018 Winter Olympics and if the past is any indication, this athlete may just come out on top in South Korea.
Ever since becoming the youngest Olympic slalom champion ever at the age of 18, Mikaela has remained focused and determined to win big once again.
And while she faces stiff competition from athletes around the world, this Colorado native is hoping to accomplish her dreams and make her country proud.
With less than one month to go until the opening ceremonies, we pulled together a few fast facts about the athlete. Something tells us it's going to be a big winter once again for this medalist.
Cat Lover: Mikaela is the first to admit that she's a proud owner of a "fat Tabby cat" named Muffin. According to the athlete, her four-legged friend loves to sleep all day and beg for food. "I really love animals in general," she told NBC Olympics. "Pets can create a bit of a messier lifestyle for sure, but they are so fun and sometimes it is nice to have some company without always feeling like you have to talk to them."
Binge Watcher: In a recent profile with the New Yorker, Mikaela admitted to binge-watching TV shows with her mom in the rare instances where she has some free time. So, what has she watched recently? Bones and Blue Bloods are recent favorites.
Rivals: Mikaela and fellow skier Lindsey Vonn have found themselves competing against each other. They both maintain, however, that there is no bitterness or nastiness. "She's just a great skier and she's obviously extremely talented," Lindsey previously shared. "She has such a great touch on snow and such a solid technique."
Long-Distance Romance: This past summer, Mikaela began seeing a French giant-slalom skier named Mathieu Faivre. While the romance is primarily long-distance, the athlete couldn't help but express her happiness to the New Yorker. "He's a cutie," she told the publication. And yes, mom approves.
Olympic Memories: Long before Mikaela thought she could compete in the Olympics, she remembers observing another athlete's impressive skills. "I remember watching replays of Bode [Miller] winning his medals in Salt Lake City," she told NBC Olympics. "I dreamed about winning Olympic medals like him, but I did not expect that it would really happen until it actually did."
