The Devil Wears Prada

Think your boss is from hell? Check out Meryl Streep--donning wicked imperiousness and runway-ready outfits--as the Cruella De Vil-coiffed editor of a New York-based fashion magazine. Aspiring journalist Anne Hathaway is hired as Streep's assistant (see also: gopher), but the dowdy girl seems hopelessly out of place in the cutthroat world of couture.
Then Hathaway gets a makeover, gets swept up in the job, and gets the boot from loved ones who grow frustrated with her devotion to the Devil. Hathaway has a breezy, appealing screen presence, but the flick skimps on her personal life and saddles her with bland Adrian Grenier as the boyfriend. But this is Streep's show anyway. She chows down on this meaty role with relish and smartly dimensionalizes her demonic diva (some sympathy for the Devil?), so she's both satisfyingly ruthless and scarifyingly real. Maybe next time she'll bite the heads off bats--we'd totally pay to see that!
