Dave Chappelle made his hosting debut on Saturday Night Live and brought back some familiar faces for a The Walking Dead parody sketch.
Channeling the new uber-villain Negan, the comedian reenacted the shocking and terrifying season six premiere, wielding a barbed wire-wrapped baseball bat and deciding which one of his defeated adversaries to execute publicly.
Only instead of Rick, Carl, Glenn, Abraham and the rest of the crew, he confronted several characters he played on his cult '00s sketch comedy series Chappelle's Show—black white supremacist Clayton Bigsby, local newsman Chuck Taylor, Tyrone Biggums and Lil Jon. What?!
There was also a Chappelle's Show mini-reunion, as former cast member Donnell Rawlings made an appearance.
This marked Chappelle's first major TV comeback since Chappelle's Show ended its three-season run in 2006. He has over the past few years concentrated on his standup comedy.
On SNL, Chappelle was also joined by fellow actor and comedian (and former SNL cast member) Chris Rock in a sketch titled "," which parodied the reactions of many Hillary Clinton supporters during Election Night last week.
Chappelle also talked about the election in his monologue, which many viewers have said marks one of the best seen on SNL.
Another performance that has drawn a lot of praise is Kate McKinnon's cold open rendition of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," as her recurring character Hillary Clinton. It comes days after the singer-songwriter died at age 82 and after the former Secretary of State lost the U.S. presidential election to Donald Trump.
The musical guest on the show was A Tribe Called Quest, who performed "We the People..." and "The Space Program" with Busta Rhymes and Consequence.
Former cast member Kristen Wiig will host next week's SNL, while The xx will perform.
