Ryan Gosling: Dazzling movie star, doting father and... undercover rock star?

It's the hunk of all hunks' 36th birthday today, and what better way to celebrate than with a deep dive into Ryan's hidden musical talent?! In 2005, Eva Mendes' leading man formed Dead Man's Bones, an alternative rock duo that went on to release an album, play to sold-out venues and develop quite a following of Gosling fanatics.

And while movie to music crossovers aren't few and far between these days, there's no denying that the birthday boy's got a set of pipes on him. Seriously, Ryan can sing. And play the piano. And strum the guitar.

But long before he stole our hearts in The Notebook, Gosling was a mere Mouseketeer, performing to screaming teens alongside fellow child stars-turned-A-listers Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears. In 2013, Backstreet BoysA.J. McLean revealed a young Gosling even tried out for the boy band, going as far to compare Ryan's musical prowess to the "Suit and Tie" crooner.

Then in 2010, Ryan wooed Michelle Williams in Blue Valentine with an impromptu ukulele solo, claiming, "I have to sing goofy in order to sing." Yeah, keep telling yourself that...

Gosling most recently lent his voice to La La Land, performing his original song "City of Love" in the Emma Stone co-starred flick in theaters Dec 9.

Happy birthday, Ryan! Our ears will never be the same.
