Well, we did it. We took a jump to the left. We took a step to the right. We put our hands on our hips, and pulled our knees in tight. We even did a pelvic thrust, and it drove us insane.
But would we do that Time Warp again? That's the real question here, after Fox finally delivered its version of the iconic cult hit from 1975.
We can't really say we'll be rewatching tonight's venture into one of the world's greatest and weirdest movies, but we didn't dislike our time in the movie theater/castle/weird science lab. It made some interesting choices, and occasionally missed the point of the original movie by casting and looking like the High School Musical version of Rocky Horror, but the performances were incredibly fun and the songs are permanently stuck in our heads. (We also love High School Musical.)
Now, before we get into the GIFs you came here for, we'll just echo the feelings we've seen a lot of people express in the past few days leading up to this event: this musical should have been live.
If that had been live, it would have been pretty darn fun. Since it wasn't live, the standards were much higher, and much harder to live up to. Plus, even the haters show up to live musicals to pretend they're not having a great time. This could have been great!
Anyway, at this point, we can't do anything but sit back and have a good time, so we'll just enjoy these GIFs we made!
The lips. Iconic.
Zero complaints about this song. Victoria Justice and Ryan McCartan make a great Brad and Janet, for sure.
And Tim Curry makes a great Tim Curry at all times.
This is the first change that lost us: boxers?! Rocky's golden speedo is iconic, and even Chord Overstreet's shorts on Glee were tighter.
Also not loving the half-dyed hair. Otherwise, Staz Nair is smokin'.
Precious dorks.
Adam Lambert was really a perfect Eddie, but we're always so sad to remember how little screentime Eddie actually gets. At least it's memorable!
A classic moment.
This is us.
Aaand this is about where we always remember this movie is WEIRD. Almost too weird. They're eating Adam Lambert!
This is also us.
Here's the thing: this movie is supposed to be really, really weird. It's supposed to be for the weirdos. The end of the movie's not supposed to make a whole lot of sense, and no one's supposed to be nearly as pretty as they all still were at the end of tonight's show.
Like, Frank is not supposed to be that pretty. Laverne is blindingly beautiful here, and that's just not right.
Sorry. We got tired of making GIFs. It's a lot of work!
Anyway, here's our final take: not bad, but not as good as it could have been. There were no bad performances, nothing really wrong with the show. It just didn't feel as fun and free and totally bats--t crazy as the original movie still manages to feel each time we watch it. Can you imagine how fun that would have been if it were live though??
Now, we're going home, and pocketing that last GIF to use as we exit the office every day from now on.
