Receiving a text message from Zayn Malik ending their engagement might have been the lowest point of Perrie Edwards' split, but a new revelation reveals that the fall out was worse.
Little Mix appeared on the U.K.'s Heart Radio following the release of their new single "Shout Out to My Ex," and during the visit Edwards opened up about a phone call she received from the former One Direction crooner that caused her to have a meltdown in the middle of the airport.
"I was at the airport and I got an awful phone call…from someone," Edwards told Heart Radio. "And then...I just...what did I...I just remember screaming in the airport."
Fellow band member Jade Thirlwall, as well as the rest of the group, was on hand at the scene to protect their friend and help her feel better.
"[Perrie] had a little mini breakdown in the airport" Thirwall added. "It was in the security line and so we thought 'Oh God!'"
Jesy Nelson also explained that they tried to shield her from other people so no one could take any photos. "We literally just made a little shell huddle around her so that no one could see her and we were like, 'It's OK, just let it out,'" Nelson added.
But Edwards wasn't going to mix words about her emotional airport experience. After candidly admitting that Zayn dumped her via text, Edwards had no problem coming clean about her emotional state in the airport. "I was like a woman possessed! It was awful!" she admitted. "It just blubber and blubber and I thought I was going to explode."
Fortunately, she had her girls by her side who helped her get through the whole ordeal, including the breakup in general. "The girls were amazing. We'd have sleepovers and they'd get my favorite desserts and do everything could to cheer me up," reads an excerpt from the band's upcoming book Our World.
Despite the outpouring of support, Edwards still struggled. "I surrounded myself with friends and family...I didn't want to be alone because when I was I'd start to think about things and get upset. It should have been a really happy time—my career was successful, 'Black Magic' was doing well, and we were traveling and performing. On the surface I was happy, but inside I felt broken."
