The Vampire Diaries Final Season Gets Scary: "It Has Come for Them"

Exclusive: Watch an extended trailer for the eighth and final season of the CW hit

The search for Damon and Enzo continues on the eighth and final season of The Vampire Diaries—and E! News has an exclusive extended first look at the new episodes and the evil that possesses some of our very favorite vampires.

"This is it. This is the beginning of the end," Damon (Ian Somerhalder) says with his trademark smirk. "You can't save me," he tells his brother.

Enzo (Michael Malarkey), on the other hand, seems very concerned that the force that has overtaken the duo without an end date in sight.

"When does this end? How many more bodies until you're full," asks Enzo in desperation.

 Stefan (Paul Wesley), Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Caroline (Candice King) will be on the case—"whatever we need to do, I'm in," says Bonnie, but, as one of the new characters warns ominously, "it has come for them."

Leave it to Caroline to ask the question we all want to know: "What is it?"

"It's so rare for a show to get to last this long, and what a privilege that Mark Pedowitz and Peter Roth have allowed us to choose the time to end the journey on our own creative terms," co-creator and executive producer Julie Plec said in a statement announcing the news that season eight would be TVD's last. "It's been eight of the best years of my life. I will miss it terribly, but I'm so proud to be here to see it to its proper end."

The Vampire Diaries begins its eighth season on Friday, Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. on The CW.
