Melissa Etheridge may have a hit on her hands—and she has Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie to thank for that. On Monday, the singer-songwriter appeared on Andy Cohen's Sirius XM radio show and weighed in on the couple's divorce. Though she hadn't seen Pitt since he was married to Jennifer Aniston, Etheridge said many of the claims against actor were "completely unfounded" and "heartbreaking" to hear. She also seemingly called out Jolie during the interview, saying, "It breaks my heart that anyone would take something as personal as your marriage and your relationship and your rights to your children and do it as purposefully as I see it's being done."
In addition to hiring a legal team, Jolie recently brought on "fixer" Judy Smith—the same crisis manager who inspired Olivia Pope, the character Kerry Washington plays on ABC's Scandal.
Before Etheridge and Cohen reunited on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live Wednesday night, the "I'm the Only One" rocker revealed she'd received a call from Smith earlier that day regarding her radio interview. "There are people whose business it is, whose job it is, to kind of fix things for celebrities. I understand, because sometimes we say things. I haven't seen Brad in forever, and I've certainly have not seen him since he was with Angelina. And every time I say something it gets turned around and twisted. And all of a sudden I'm saying something about her," Etheridge said. "So, I thought I would do what I do best and I wrote a song about it today."
Strumming an acoustic guitar, she performed "Fixer Blues," dedicated to Brangelina. "Oh, well I woke up this morning / To a subtle warning / That had my mind rockin' / Uh, seems like I said some things / About an old, old, old friend / That's got some people talking / Well, hmm, now / I know broken hearts / A thing or two about divorce / I been there before once, OK, twice," she sang. "And I have not seen my friend in over 10 years / And I swear I have never, ever, ever met his wife / I tell you what / I ain't picking no fight / None of my business who's wrong or who's right / Anyway, that's for sure / My opinion is mine / And you can take that and a dime and have a good time on your Google search / Yeah, so, fixer, I hope you understand / To scandalize was never my plan / Reminiscing, I was flowing / I was hanging with my good friend, Andy Cohen / Talkin' about our spouses / In our own glass houses / So the moral of this story is / Divorce is a bitch, and nobody wins / Let's no do unto others, and please forgive us our sins / Life is too hard, anyway / So, when you're chatting with Andy/ You better watch what you say."
