Hi, do you like scary things? If so, Fox's The Exorcist is for you, according to Geena Davis. The Oscar winner is coming to TV—yes, again—to start in The Exorcist, but mind you this is not a simple reboot. She is not playing Ellen Burstyn's character from the original movie.
"I loved the whole idea when I heard about it and read the script for the pilot. I was a big fan of The Exorcist—although of course scarred for life as most everyone was from watching it—Just when I heard the title oh was like, ‘Oh that could be good.' As long they're not remaking the movie. I don't want to be the Ellen Burstyn character, just remake it, but it's not at all. It's not at all. It's in a world where the events of the movie took place, but now it's forty-something years later and something's happening again. I just love scary stuff," Davis told E! News during a recent visit to the set.
Davis, who counts The Exorcist as her all-time favorite movie, said the pilot is full of scares (Note: we can back her up on that, it's pretty good) and it only gets worse from there.
"It's going to be super scary," she teased. "It just gets worse…It just really gets much, much worse. I think they'll be really pleased by how scary it is."
The Fox series also stars Alfonso Herrera, Ben Daniels, Brianne Howey, Hannah Kasulka and Alan Ruck and follows a family who thinks there's some strange (read demonic) going on with their daughter.
Davis is no stranger to TV. She starred in The Geena Davis Show and Commander in Chief as well as a recent role Grey's Anatomy. So what's the scariest thing about working in TV?
"Getting canceled, maybe," she said with a laugh. "It's like, ‘Oh my god.'—The first time that happened I was like, ‘That can happen? Of course it can, but I thought it was going to go on forever.'"
The Exorcist premieres Friday, Sept. 23 at 9 p.m. on Fox.
