It's been nearly 30 years since Mel Gibson and Danny Glover teamed up as odd couple cop duo Riggs and Murtaugh—which means that plenty of people who might tune in to Fox's updated TV version of Lethal Weapon tonight who haven't seen the original movies.

"This is really a character piece. It's about two guys at different points in their lives who need each other in order to live," reboot star Damon Wayans tells E! News of his new buddy cop dramedy. "Although it has a modern feel, it's still really dealing with what was so brilliantly laid out in the original Lethals, which is the character relationships."

Much like the films, the TV show follows widowed daredevil cop Riggs (Clayne Crawford) and family man detective Murtaugh (Wayans), who are partnered together in present-day Los Angeles. The duo has very different crime-solving styles, but soon discover that they actually work well together.
