Like many, George Clooney is concerned about America's future.
The Oscar winner, a longtime political activist and outspoken Hillary Clinton supporter, recently sat down for a candid conversation for Fox News Sunday. In the interview airing Sept. 18, Clooney touches on the current political landscape as well as what's surprised him most about the 2016 presidential election.
"I think it's frustrating," the 55-year-old says of politics today. "You know, I grew up as a Democrat in Kentucky in the '70s, so, you know, I grew up in a place—I was a minority, you know, in that world. I didn't move to Hollywood and become a Democrat."
He then compares past and present, explaining, "It wasn't as contentious and there wasn't the idea that once, one party got power that nothing was going to happen from the other side, that they were going to just stop things cold. I worry about that. I think that's dangerous."
But despite ideals and legislation often pitting Democrats and Republicans against each other, Clooney finds a unique distinction in the current race to the White House that's uniting both sides. The Money Monster star isn't shy to express his disdain for Donald Trump, the Republican candidate who's had many flipping the script on their political beliefs.
"It's a very funny thing, odd for me to be on the same side of an issue as [conservative pundits] Bill Kristol and Charles Krauthammer and George Will and people like that. And usually we're not on the same side," Clooney admits.
As for what he thinks Americans can do to mend its nation's problems, George expresses, "I feel as if we need to get away from the divisiveness that we're stuck in right now and the fear that we're playing off of."
Clooney then quotes veteran journalist Edward R. Murrow, adding, "'We cannot be driven by fear into an age of unreason if we look deep in our history and remember that we are not the descendants of fearful people.' I think that's an important part of us and I think that's important to remember as we go forward."
