Iman is taking one step back into the limelight since the untimely death of her late husband, David Bowie

Eight months since the music icon's passing, the model and mogul arrived to the first night of New York Fashion Week on Wednesday armed with a sentimental accessory.

Clad in a vivid velvet blue suit, the 61-year-old Somalian stunner paid tribute to her partner of over 20 years with a silver necklace spelling "David." As she told Good Morning America's Joe Zee, she has no plans to take it off.

"I'm wearing this until my death," she told him. "[Fashion designer] Hedi Slimane made it for me."

Two months after losing her husband to liver cancer, Iman also had to say goodbye to her mother, Maryan Baadi. "My mom passed away, so it's been a tough year, but I'm holding up," she added to Zee.

No stranger to the fashion scene, the style icon attended Tom Ford's "very glam but intimate" presentation Wednesday night and caught up with fellow iconic face, Cindy Crawford

The moment marked her first official public appearance since the two tragic deaths. "My first night out attending an event since last year!" Iman captioned a selfie on Instagram.

While Iman inspires fans all around the world with how she has gracefully handled this tough year, she won't accept a compliment on her strength. "You're a survivor," Zee told Iman.

Her answer? "Not as much as you think."
