On this very day five years ago, One Direction released the music video for "What Makes You Beautiful."
The sight of five boyishly handsome British boys bopping around the beach to an upbeat, catchy pop tune was a welcome reprieve for the weary music world, and it wasn't long before Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik were household names.
For a boy band, five years is an eternity, but we've kept up pretty closely with the fellas' lives. Zayn was the first to go solo, but Harry and Liam now have individual record deals as well. Since then relationships have come and gone, #Larry still isn't real, and heck, Louis is the father to a six-month-old son named Freddie.
But today, as 1D fans celebrated #5YearsOfWMYB on Twitter, they reminisced on memories from the good-ol' days of 2011. Niall's teeth look so different pre-braces, noted one fan. This was before the boys got tattooed, observed another. Those were the days with Zayn, lamented another... Watching "What Makes You Beautiful" brought Directioners back, and it prompted so many fans to remember how envious they once were of that pretty girl in the video!
So technically, three gals shared the screen with Harry, Niall, Liam, Louis and Zayn, but only one lucky lady had the overwhelming hair flip: Madison McMillin.
Not only did she get a significant amount of screen time, but she got to have a tender, one-on-one moment with Harry himself. The floppy-haired, future playboy serenaded Madison, nuzzled her nose and made teeny boppers around the world melt in the process.
Luckily for Madison, 1D fans took kindly to her role in the music video and seemed to experience her near-kiss with Harry vicariously. And while it'd be hard for almost anyone to top being the first ever love interest in a One Direction music video, Madison has fared quite well since her "What Makes You Beautiful" days.
According to her Instagram page, Madison is still pursuing a career in showbiz. She humbly describes herself as an "aspiring actress" and is also pursuing a career as an interior designer/decorator. She owns a women's clothing store called English Breakfast in New Albany, Miss., and according to Instagram, she previously attended Mississippi State and joined a sorority there.
Brava, Madison, who has clearly gone on to do big things just like her "What Makes You Beautiful" co-stars.
