Lady Gaga is coming to a movie theater near you.

After years of collecting musical accolades, the 30-year-old songstress celebrated her first foray onto the small screen last year in American Horror Story: Hotel—a role that sent her home with a Golden Globe.

Less than a year since her awestruck acceptance speech, Gaga has officially landed her first silver screen lead role in an upcoming reboot of the 1954 classic, A Star Is Born, directed by and also starring Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper

"Im elated to be directed by & starring w/ Bradley in this project. He's a brilliant visionary artist," she tweeted Tuesday upon announcement of the news.

While Gaga has proven her acting chops on television, her expected success in film will solidify her as a true triple threat in Hollywood. Fortunately, she's in the most esteemed of company. While venturing into a new genre of work may be daunting, a handful of the industry's most prominent and celebrated stars began their careers not in front of a camera, but behind a microphone.

In arguably one of the most unexpected career turns in Hollywood history, former American Idol contestant Jennifer Hudson was an aspiring singer who landed the role of a lifetime when she was cast in Dreamgirls alongside Beyoncé and Jamie Foxx

Hudson's co-star Beyoncé had already made a name for herself in music years before as a member of Destiny's Child before going solo and celebrating even further meteoric success.

Cher has been entertaining audiences with her signature smoldering deep voice since the 1960s. After two decades, she made her initial silver screen breakthrough (and earned her first Osar nod) alongside Meryl Streep in Silkwood.

Since the mid-1980s, she's amassed quite the film resumé, including roles in Mermaids, The Witches of Eastwick and most memorably, Moonstruck, which won her the 1988 Academy Award for Best Actress. Cher also has collected six Golden Globe Award nominations and three wins.

He won audience's hearts with Friends With Benefits and continued to secure lead roles in Runner Runner and In Time.

Queen Latifah was known primarily as a rapper and hip hop artist before making her first attempts at movie stardom. She was ultimately a success, garnering an Oscar nomination for her turn as Matron "Mama" Morton in Chicago as well as stretching her comedic muscles in Bringing Down the House alongside legend Steve Martin.

Standout performances followed with her appearance in the movie musical Hairspray, Life Support (for which she won her first Golden Globe Award), and most recently, HBO's Bessie.

Will Smith broke out onto the scene first as half of DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince, but it wasn't long before he temporarily put down the mic to grow into one of the biggest blockbuster stars of his time.

Between Bad Boys, the Men in Black franchise and Independence Day, Smith had secured his positioning as an action star. However, with emotionally charged performances in The Pursuit of Happyness and Concussion, the actor and rapper proved there is practically nothing he can't handle.
