Gossip Girl's Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are getting into the superhero game with Runaways. The TV gurus will bring Marvel's rag-tag team of teen heroes to Hulu. The pair are writing the pilot based on the comic book created by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona. They'll also serve as showrunners should the show make it to series. Hulu has ordered additional scripts passed the pilot as well.

"I'm a long-time fan of Runaways and couldn't be more excited to bring Brian and Adrian's characters to life," Schwartz said in a statement.

"Josh and I can't wait to get to work for Marvel and Hulu," Savage said in a statement.

In Runaways, which debuted in 2003, a group of six teenagers discover their parents are actually super villains. So what do they do? They run away from home. The cast of characters rotated throughout its run with mutants, aliens and robots—not to mention a genetically engineered dinosaur, Old Lace.

If there was ever a Marvel comic tailor-made for TV it's Runaways. Schwartz also created The OC, so you know the teen angst will be strong in Runaways.

"We've known the Runaways' story would make great television and being lucky enough to have Josh and Stephanie—who have time and again created shows that speak so genuinely to this exact audience—write and produce the series is nothing short of remarkable," Jeph Loeb, executive producer on Runaways and head of Marvel Television, said in a statement.

Runaways joins Marvel's growing slate of TV products which includes Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Luke Cage and the upcoming Legion, The Punisher, Defenders and Iron Fist.

No premiere date or casting was announced.
