Nina Dobrev could be coming home to Mystic Falls. The Vampire Diaries actress is in talks to return to The CW series for its final season, network boss Mark Pedowitz told press at the 2016 TCA Summer Press Tour.

"We collectively came to the same place," Pedowitz told reporters about the decision to end The Vampire Diaries. "We backed Julie [Plec] in her decision…there are discussions going on with Nina, we'd love to have her back...These are discussions that go on, hopefully she'll be back, but should it not work out, Julie has planned out a great series finale for fans."

In regards to how many episodes, Pedowitz later told a group of reporters Dobrev could return for "as many as Julie thinks she needs her for."

"I always like to have Nina. Who doesn't like to have Nina on the show? She was a great person to have. She was a great spokesperson for The CW and for The Vampire Diaries. She made a career decision that, for her, was probably the right decision but we'd love to have her back," he said. "But again, if it cannot work out, Julie will take care to have a really satisfactory series finale."

Pedowitz also addressed a number of topics, from Emmy snubs to the fate of Supernatural and The Originals.

Supernatural's future: "Look, Jared [Padalecki] and Jensen [Ackles], I believe—at least they seem—they're very happy...I'm thrilled with the creative direction of the show…creatively the show is terrific. If the ratings hold, the show could out last my tenure in this chair," he said.

The Originals going on without The Vampire Diaries: Pedowtiz said he views the two as "separate series at this point." "[The Originals] can live very well on its own...Julie's still heavily involved in that also. I'm hopeful that we'll see a fifth year."

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend's new season: Pedowitz praised co-creator and star Rachel Bloom and confirmed the new season is planned to be 13 episodes.

Superheroes: Right now they plan is to just stick with the four shows, The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow, but should another character pop, they will evaluate the situation. The network is also introducing its first gay lead superhero character with The Ray in a new CW Seed animated series, Freedom Fighters: The Ray. The character could later show up in another Greg Berlanti-produced series. Regarding Legends, Pedowitz admitted, "we made some mistakes, we think this year we will correct it. Again, sometimes it gets confusing…at the end of the day of course I understand it."

Little Women: The CW was working on a modern-day version of the classic tale set in a dystopian future, but Pedowitz confirmed the project was no longer in development, conceding "the script didn't quite get there."
