Joe Biden had an important item on his agenda Monday: officiate a wedding.

The Vice President of the United States, 73, conducted a ceremony at 4 p.m. in Washington, D.C. Biden tweeted a photo of himself presiding over the wedding between Brian Mosteller and Joe Mahshie. "Proud to marry Brian and Joe at my house," he told his 1.6 million Twitter followers, adding, "Couldn't be happier, two longtime White House staffers, two great guys." Dr. Jill Biden, Second Lady of the United States, retweeted the photo and wrote, "Love is love!"

David Lienemann, official vice presidential photographer, tweeted, "Congrats to Brian and Joe!"

Biden publicly endorsed same-sex marriage in 2012. He obtained a temporary certification from the District of Columbia before Monday's ceremony, his office said. According to BuzzFeed News, Mosteller and Mahshie were married in a small ceremony attended by family members.

Monday marked the first time Biden had officiated a wedding.

Hollywood Gets Political

Mosteller is the director of Oval Office operations, where he works closely under President Barack Obama. His husband, meanwhile, is a trip coordinator for First Lady Michelle Obama.

Earlier this year, Mosteller was the subject of a profile published in The Washington Post that detailed his relationship with POTUS. He had been open with the president about his sexual orientation since the early days of the campaign. After Obama affirmed his support for gay marriage during an interview with Robin Roberts in 2012, POTUS asked Mosteller how he did. "When I was young, I couldn't fathom that I could ever have a partner, and now I was with the president of the United States and, together, we were talking this kind of partnership, and it was not only public but so very normal," Mosteller told the newspaper. "How often does a boss talk about love? Now, how often does a boss contribute to our country's blessing of your love?"
