What's the best way to get over a divorce? A cocktail and a tropical locale...far, far away.
Many celebrities have proven there's no better way to get over a big split than actually splitting, escaping from the every day bustle of life and just getting away—especially from the spotlight.
The media tends to chew up big divorce news, and therefore, many stars plan vacations in the wake of breakup announcements—but not just for themselves. Some of themtake their families to keep them occupied and prevent them from getting wrapped up in everything, and sometimes that includes their exes, too.
Case in point: Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, who "consciously uncoupled" in the Bahamas following their split in 2014.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin: Since we already brought it up, let's talk about the couple who fled to the Bahamas after announcing their split in March 2014.
The pair made the announcement on Goop (Paltrow's website) on March 25, 2014. But a few days before the news hit headlines, the couple had jetted to the Bahamas with daughter Apple and son Moses, staying at a $10,500 hideaway to avoid the media glare.
A local resident told us at the time, "The island is a place where you go not to be seen. People come to the island to really get away. It is a very private island and there is nothing commercial here. It's a lot of land without a lot of people living here."
While on vacation, the family was spotted hitting the beach, doing a little shopping and enjoying the local food—definitely the key to forgetting their troubles.
Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck: After announcing their split on June 30, 2015, the former couple took their two daughters, Violet and Seraphina, and their son, Samuel, to their home in the Bahamas for a "private and special" getaway.
While we're sure they spent a lot of time with their kids soaking up the sun, there also appeared to be some tense moments. Despite trying to remain private, photos were taken of the couple during what appeared to be a an intense conversation, which resulted in both of them looking away from each other at one point.
Affleck was still wearing his wedding ring, while Garner was not. A source told People at the time that they "seemed to be cordial to each other. They would look at each other and speak and then both look away in silence," the onlooker added. "A lot of the time, they seemed to just stare off into space."
Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie: The actress and her ex-husband, former hockey player Mike Comrie announced they had filed for divorce in February 2015. After promising that their split was amicable and that they'd remain "best friends," their divorce was finalized this year, in February 2016.
They continued to prove that they're still on good terms, heading to Maui, Hawaii, just a week after finalizing the divorce, which resulted in Duff paying comrie around $2 million. They hit the beach and soaked up the sun with their son, Luca, appearing to have a great time as a family while news of their official split hit the media.
"They remain best friends and will continue to be in each other's lives," Hilary's rep told E! News. "They are dedicated to loving and parenting their amazing son, and ask for privacy at this time."
Katharine McPhee: The Smash star decided to jet off shortly after announcing her divorce from Nick Cokas in May 2014, finding some peace of mind with her bestie, Kellie Pickler, during a vacation to Mexico.
She appeared to be in good spirits in a video she posted on Instagram at the time, enjoying the girls' trip as they posted up in a cabana and smiled for the camera, saying, "Hola!"
McPhee and Cokas divorced after she was photographed kissing her Smash director, Michael Morris, a few months before. Her rep told E! News she and Cokas had been "separated" for a year, so she could have either been celebrating or lamenting during her Mexican vacation. No matter the reason, there's no better way to close a chapter of your life than with a little tequila and your best friend.
Christina Aguilera: In October 2010, the singer filed for divorce from her husband of five years, Jordan Bratman. However, she made sure to ditch the drama that followed the announcement by jetting off to Hawaii for a tropical vacation shortly thereafter.
She attended the opening of the super lavish and private Edition Hotel in Wakiki, a hotel rep confirmed to E! News at the time.
A source also told Life & Style magazine she made sure to stay busy with a "packed weekend" that included "yoga, surfing lessons, hikes, lunches, VIP dinners and cocktail parties."
Sounds like the perfect post-divorce getaway to us!
