Sometimes the romance ends but the relationship remains.
Take Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, for example. It's been over a year since they confirmed they were getting divorced, but the amicable exes have continued to co-parent their three children and very much still function as a family. They share parental roles and responsibilities, and they also ensure Violet, Seraphina and Samuel have time with mom and dad by spending holidays together and even taking vacations as a family.
Almost immediately after news of Jen and Ben's split broke, the exes and their three kids took a trip to the Bahamas. At the time, a source told People Jen and Ben "seemed to be cordial to each other," noting. "They would look at each other and speak and then both look away in silence."
That could've potentially been awkward (who knows?) but Violet, Seraphina and Samuel got to have some fun in the sun with both parents. Jen and Ben aren't the only exes to vacation together with their families post-split...
Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie took a trip to Maui together with their son Luca just one week after their divorce was finalized. From the moment their split was confirmed, Hilary and Mike make it clear that Luca and keeping things normal for him was a top priority.
"We have such a great kid, and we're both so obsessed with him," Hilary revealed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. "We are good friends and we laugh a lot and we have a great communication. We share pictures when one is not with Luca. Yeah, he's great...We are great and we keep on trucking."
Similarly, Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin continued to take family vacations together post-split. Along with son Moses and daughter Apple, the exes took several family trips together, including visits to Mexico and Peru.
"We'll have a weekend all together; holidays, we're together," Gwyneth told Glamour magazine. "We're still very much a family, even though we don't have a romantic relationship. He's like my brother."
Bruce Willis and Demi Moore remained friendly after their divorce, even continuing to go on joint family vacations with daughter Rumer, Tallulah and Scout. Back when Demi was married to Ashton Kutcher, Bruce and the family vacation dynamic still remained the same.
"It's hard to understand, but we go on holidays together," the Die Hard star told Vanity Fair back in 2007. "We still raise our kids together. We still have that bond."
Last year Heather Locklear and ex-husband Richie Sambora joined their daughter Ava for a pre-college vacation to Bora Bora.
The musician "and Heather wanted to spend quality time together with Ava as a family," Richie's rep said in a statement to People. "They are celebrating her 4.2 GPA and her 11 scholarship offers from schools...They are proud of her."
Téa Leoni revealed to More magazine that she and David Duchovny, who split in 2014 after 17 years of marriage, went on to share a rental house with their children and extended family over the holidays.
"On occasion, I want to throttle him," she told the mag. "But in any real relationship with someone you love, that's true."
