Remember These Celebrity Scandals? Somehow They Don't Seem So Scandalous Anymore

Transitioning from Disney star to adult wasn't easy for some stars

Remember when Miley Cyrus buzzed her hair and there was a collective cry around the world? Looking back, that decision was a huge deal at the time, but now it just kind of seems like a shrug in the grand scheme of things.

There are several scandals that plagued headlines in the '90s and 2000s, many of which you've probably forgotten about or even laugh about in hindsight considering everything that has happened in the world...celebrity related or not.

Speaking of Miley, how about that Vanity Fair spread she did with dad Billy Ray Cyrus for the June 2008 cover that raised eyebrows across the globe? In one photo the "Wrecking Ball" songstress posed with her back completely bare, wrapped only in a bed sheet. Miley received an endless amount of backlash for the provocative spread, which was shot by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz, with some claiming the photoshoot even threatened Disney's Hannah Montana franchise.

After the criticism, the young star apologized for the shoot. "I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be 'artistic' and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed," she said. "I never intended for any of this to happen and I apologize to my fans who I care so deeply about."

Would the Miley we know now apologize? Probably not. But let's be honest, the world was probably just surprised by the fact a Disney star would do such a thing. Considering Miley's many actions since then, this was by far the tamest.

Wild Reality TV Scandals

Just one year later Miley sparked controversy again when she danced on a pole at the Teen Choice Awards. To be fair, she was fully clothed unlike the "Wrecking Ball" music video in which she was naked riding the demolition tool.

Now that crop tops are a fashion statement, it's crazy to think that Britney Spears once was panned for posing on the cover of Rolling Stone in a bra (not even a lacy bra!) while holding a purple Teletubby. Perhaps it was the shock of another Disney starlet transforming into a racy adult that shocked the masses, but once again, somehow this seems pretty low key compared to other celebrity photo shoots that have made waves.

The "Toxic" singer made waves again when she and Madonna kissed at the 2003 MTV VMAs. It was the kiss heard 'round the world, and realistically, what's a kiss between two friends?

Justin Bieber has had his fair share of cringe-inducing headlines, but in 2013 his peeing into a mop bucket and insulting Bill Clinton took the prize. Compared to his 2014 DUI, this doesn't seem so bad, but perhaps it was indicative of what was to come before his apology tour.

Prince Harry got some heat after photos of him naked in Las Vegas surfaced. Yes, he's royalty, so he's held to a higher standard and probably shouldn't have been at a naked billiards party. But can you really blame him? It's Vegas. If anything, he seemed kind of regular after that incident.

Ahh, hindsight: Allowing people to realize how much they overreacted every single time.
