The Real Housewives of Orange County's Disastrous 1970s Party Ends With a Brooks Ayers Phone Call

Why do they continue to throw themed parties?

A serious question: Do these themed parties ever end peacefully on The Real Housewives of Orange County? First we had the 1980s, and now Shannon Beador's 1970s-themed party is one for the disaster record books.

First, let's commend the commitment to the theme. Everybody was wearing so much polyester. Second, a moment of appreciation for Mrs. Roper. Sure, Kelly Dodd kept hurling that name at Shannon as an insult, but as Shannon said, "I wanted to look like Mrs. Roper tonight, that was my goal!"

"What's wrong with looking like Mrs. Roper? Is that an insult or a compliment?" Tamra Judge wandered.

Mrs. Roper is a style icon. Audra Lindley played the caftan-loving landlord on Three's Company and in the spinoff The Ropers. Sure, the perm is a little questionable now, but the dresses and the chunky necklaces? Iconic.

Anyway, why was Kelly screaming at Shannon about looking like Mrs. Roper? Because everybody was doing shots like it was the last night of their first semester of college. Jaci and Nina (?), guests of Shannon, apparently saw Kelly back when she wasn't with her husband (that story is here), and were relaying the info to Shannon and Tamra when Vicki Gunvalson and Kelly tottered in looking for Vicki's purse. Nina (?) had moved it, Heather Dubrow confirmed after Tamra revealed the gossip was happening. Kelly felt set up (sure looked like one) and began screaming at Shannon about looking like Mrs. Roper.

Vicki escaped that screaming match only to find her in one with Shannon's husband David. David took the lies about Brooks Ayers' cancer hard, it seems. "You are the lowest of the low," David said as he got in Vicki's face. "You're a f—king scumbag."

Pro-tip: If you are one of the husbands/boyfriends of a Real Housewife, don't ever start arguing with one of her cast mates.

Kelly went for the low hanging fruit and shouted, "No wonder why you cheated on your wife!" as she left the scene. And then she shouted this at Shannon: "I would not be friends with you because you're so f—king ugly."

Are we surprised this happened when Kelly said she had three glasses of wine before taking a shot with Vicki and proclaiming, "I'm going to get MC Hammered," to which Vicki said, "I need to whoop it up so bad."

But the biggest shocker came when Vicki departed the party and called…Brooks.

"Brooks, it's Vicki. David Beador said I'm a pig and I lied about you, that you didn't have cancer. You need to call David Beador because this is filthy and disgusting that I have to deal with this. I didn't do anything," she said in a voicemail message. "I believed you and I love you and that was that. So here we are, now nine months later and I have to deal with this. So call me back."

The Real Housewives of Orange County airs Mondays, 9 p.m. on Bravo.

(E! and Bravo are both part of the NBCUniversal family.)
