Over the past eleven seasons, the Bones team has faced way more than their fair share of serial killers. But the season 11 finale will introduce another one—an enemy unlike any they've ever come up against in the past.

"We are going to be seeing a type of serial killer we've never dealt with before," showrunner John Collier tells E! News of the ultra-tense episode, "in a way that really is going to put some of our characters we love into direct jeopardy and conflict with each other. We will be paying it off with an amazing twist that we're really gratified by that's going to leave a lot more to come for the next season."

Season 12, which will consist of a dozen episodes with which the series will wrap up, will see the Jeffersonian crew tackle this new villain. "We're going to bring in a new threat, a new villain, who couldn't have existed if the first season hadn't existed. We're really going to go back to our roots," Collier teases. "I guarantee that no one will guess who it is still, but it all makes sense and I'm so happy to be dealing with this. I'm so happy to be laying this out and plotting it and it really carries us to an exciting and impactful place."

One thing you won't have to worry about in the final season is any more drama in Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan's (Emily Deschanel) relationship.

"I think we've done a lot of challenging their relationship and their marriage, and that's not what this season's about. Their love, their marriage is strong," Collier says.

Who do you think Bones' mysterious new foe could be? The Bones season 11 finale airs Thursday, July 21 at 8 p.m. on Fox.
