Lady Gaga and Taylor Kinney's engagement is off.
The former couple, who began dating in 2011 after meeting on the set of Gaga's "Yoü and I" music video, have called it quits, sources tell E! News. The breakup comes after months of speculation that the "Poker Face" singer, 30, and the Chicago Fire actor, 35, were on the outs.
"They want to keep it private," an insider says. "It's heartbreaking."
Last week—on Kinney's birthday—Gaga was photographed without her engagement ring. When she performed at an orphanage in Mexico earlier this week, the ring was again missing. Neither Gaga nor Kinney has commented on the matter, and it's unclear who initiated the split.
From the beginning, though, it was obvious the pair shared a deep and meaningful connection. "When you meet someone that's not intimidated by the amazing people that are around you [or] by the love that you receive—that's love," Gaga told Fashion magazine in 2013. "Men weren't always happy for me. It was very challenging to watch a woman be so successful."
Kinney was The One, according to Gaga. "I really can't imagine being with anyone other than who I'm with right now," the Golden Globe winner told Howard Stern in a December 2014 SiriusXM interview. "He is the right guy. I have that feeling. I just know it."
The pair's relationship only deepened in the following years. To Gaga's surprise and delight, Kinney proposed on Valentine's Day in 2015 with a heart-shaped diamond ring. Three months later, Gaga told Women's Wear Daily that she was looking for a wedding dress with her fiancé in mind. "It will be totally for Taylor. It's all about my man," the Grammy winner revealed. "I haven't really thought about anything specific yet, but whatever it is, it will be totally for him."
Gaga spent the summer and fall filming FX's American Horror Story: Hotel, while Kinney filmed the fourth season of Chicago Fire and guest arcs on Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med. "We don't have a date," Kinney told Meredith Vieira on her daytime talk show in October. "It's kind of a logistics thing right now. It's just timing. She's really busy with the show; I'm busy with mine."
"I could go to the Little White Chapel, but I think...well, she's an Italian and that won't happen," the TV star continued. "She wants a nice big wedding, so I'll let you know when we get a date."
Gaga, who is working on a follow-up album to 2013's ARTPOP, later admitted that many people were pitching in ahead of her big day. "If I would have denied the women of my life the planning of the wedding they would probably kill me," she told Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio show in March. "I have all the help in the world, in a way!" That same month, E! News caught up with Kinney, who admitted his fiancée was calling most of the shots. "I leave that up to her," he said. Regarding when they would tie the knot, he said, "We have a couple in mind, but no set date."
