Movie Couples Who Never Dated in Real Life (But Should Have)

Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio are just two actors who never fell in love off-screen

Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio just make sense.

Clearly, they think so too, considering that the actors worked together twice more after their star-making turns as star-crossed lovers in 1997's Titanic. No ship could sink the love between Rose and Jack in James Cameron's epic (even if only one of them survived). Heck, even Celine Dion—who sang "My Heart Will Go On"—is still shipping the iconic characters 19 years later.

Off-screen, Kate and Leonardo have remained constants in each other's lives. In fact, after her first two marriages ended in divorce, it was Leonardo who gave Kate away to Ned Rocknroll. And though Kate and Leonardo's fans had hoped they secretly got together behind the scenes, a real romance never blossomed behind closed doors. "I think the reason that friendship works is because there was never any romantic thing," Kate told Marie Claire U.K. in 2012. "It's so disappointing for people to hear that, because in the soap opera of the Kate and Leo story we fell in love at first sight and had a million snogs, but actually we never did."

"He always saw me as one of the boys; I've never really been a girly-girl," Kate added. "We needed each other to lean on because we were very young and working all kinds of crazy bloody hours and it was a shock to the system.'"

Kate and Leonardo aren't the only actors to inspire such romantic hopes in moviegoers. Check out the gallery to see which other onscreen couples should have taken their romance off-script.
