For the first time in her adult life—scratch that, her entire life—Amy Schumer is in love.

Since late 2015, the Inside Amy Schumer star has been dating Ben Hanisch, a Chicago-based furniture maker. Though Amy has been in other romantic relationships before, she claims none of them can compare to the bond she has with Ben. "I feel like Ben is the first guy who's really been my boyfriend," she says in Marie Claire's August issue, on sale July 19. "There are guys who, if they heard me say that, would want to punch me in the face, but yeah, it's the truth."

Though Ben has met her friends, her famous friends and her family, Amy says her relationship can be overwhelming. "Being in love is the scariest thing in the world. You want to f--king cry and scream. I can't handle it. Every time we say goodbye, I think, 'This will have been a nice last week together.' Or I tell myself nothing is real and he's going to leave me and tell me he never loved me," she tells the magazine. "I feel so bad for him. How exhausting it must be dating me."

Perhaps Amy is just being hard on herself; it's not as if Ben has publicly said he wants out of the relationship. But even as a young girl, Amy admits she was "always self-effacing, self-reflective."

"I hated feeling I was just like every other girl on Long Island," she says of her upbringing. "Looking at my clothes and my hair, I was very aware of not wanting to be the same as everyone."

No one would dare say she's the "same as everyone" now. With a Primetime Emmy Award and a Peabody Award under her belt for her work on Inside Schumer, in addition to a stand-up tour, a soon-to-be-published book of essays and several film projects in the pipeline, she's forging a path that's all her own. "It's such a blur. I don't even remember what I've just done," she tells Marie Claire. "I'm trying to figure out how to navigate all this. I don't have it down. I. Do. Not."
