Like the original series, Netflix's Lost in Space reboot will follow the Robinson family who are stranded light years away from their destination. The Robinsons "find themselves battling a strange new alien environment and also their own personal demons. Equal parts family drama and sci-fi adventure, it is a survival story for the ages."
The streaming platform has ordered a 10-episode first season, each episode will be an hour. The 1960s sci-fi classic from Irwin Allen will be reimagined for the modern day by writers Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, whose credits include Dracula Untold and Last Witch Hunter, and Zack Estrin of Prison Break will serve as showrunner.
A 2018 premiere date is targeted.
"The original series so deftly captured both drama and comedy, and that made it very appealing to a broad audience. The current creative team's reimagining of the series for Netflix is sure to appeal to both fans who fondly remember the original and to create a new generation of enthusiasts around the world," Cindy Holland, Netflix's vice president of original content, said in a statement.
Lost in Space originally aired from 1965-1968 and was rebooted for the big screen in 1998 with Matt LeBlanc, Heather Graham and Lacey Chabert.
