Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, perhaps also known as J.K. Rowling's forthcoming gift to Harry Potter fans everywhere, isn't being released until November, but the author is certainly giving her fans plenty of insight beforehand.
The film, which will actually be a three-part franchise, marks Rowling's screenwriting debut, and already has received a couple of trailers that gave everyone a good look at magic in America. Viewers got to meet Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) and his magical case, as well as getting a sneak peek at trouble he might run into with Percival Graves (Colin Farrell).
You're an interesting man, Mr. Scamander," whispered Percival in the narration of the second trailer. "Just like your suitcase, there's much more to you than meets the eye. Kicked out of Hogwarts for endangering human life with a beast, yet one of your teachers are strongly against your expulsion."
We saw Newt leaving England and boarding a steam ship, as the narrator asked, "Now what makes Albus Dumbledore so fond of you, Mr. Scamander?"
Perhaps now we've found out what our favorite headmaster loves so much! In the new featurette, we learned 5 new things about Fantastic Beats and Where to Find Them.
1. Magizoologist is a self-titled term. "He's been traveling the world studying magical creatures," Rowling says.
2. Newt Scamander is more comfortable with creatures than humans. Redmayne appears in the clip and explains that his onscreen persona is closer with some of the creatures he carries in his case than real people.
3. Speaking of magical creatures, the featurette gives a much closer look at some of the plants and animals we'll come to know (and probably love) in the fall. One such plant is what appears to be a green sprout plant. "C'mon give me a smile," Newt tells the plant. Unfortunately, he doesn't get what he wants.
4. Get ready for politics. In the Harry Potter franchise, magic-born people who married and conceived with Muggles (thereby giving birth to "Half-Bloods") were frowned upon. But that might not have always been the case in the U.K. "I know you have rather backwards laws about relations with non-magic people," Newt says when asked of his knowledge about the wizarding world in America. "You're not meant to befriend them. You can't marry them, which seems wildly absurd to me."
So what happened in the U.K. that ultimately led the Brits' wizarding world follow that of America's?
5. We finally find out how Jacob Kowalski, a No-Maj (Muggle), ends up getting tangled in Newt's adventures: He accidentally opens up his magical creature case!
