Those eight little words tweeted by Catfish host Nev Schulman on Tuesday morning took a TV show dedicated to investigated possible internet hoaxes and placed it at the center of its very own. Had MTV actually canceled the show, effectively removing the bromance between Nev and co-host Max Joseph out of our lives? We had to find out...
Following the shocking tweet, Nev's Twitter account remained silent. A quick scan of Max's offered no further mention of the show ending, which seemed suspicious. Why would one of them tweet and not the other? Alarm bells started going off. Were we being catfished by someone pretending to be the host of Catfish? The meta of it all was making our brain wrinkle.
Remembering that we are, you know, journalists, we reached out to MTV to see if the network had anything to say about the future of the series. As of press time, E! News' request for comment still yet to be returned. With the network's radio silence only adding fuel to our fire of suspicion, we continued to scour Nev and Max's Twitter accounts for any further information. And then here it was, nearly an hour after our hunt for the truth began.
First, the incendiary tweet disappeared from Nev's feed. In its place, a reassuring statement that read, "Catfish is alive and well! As is my bromance with @maxjoseph." That sound you heard was our collective sigh of relief. We need to go lie down now. This has been quite a morning.
