We bet a few Broadway fans are defying gravity right about now.

Wicked, the hit musical seen by nearly 50 million fans worldwide, is finally headed to the big screen after years of anticipation. You only have to wait a few more years...

Universal Pictures announced today that the feature-film adaptation of the Tony-winning stage production will be in theaters Dec. 20, 2019.

Surely timed to make a splash during the holiday season, the story tells the real story about the Wicked Witch of the West—the green-tinged Elphaba—and good witch Galinda in the land of Oz before Dorothy's arrival.

Billy Elliot's Stephen Daldry will direct the film, which is being produced by Marc Platt, who also helped bring Into the Woods to the big screen.

Although there is no word on cast selections just yet, we can't help but think of the original Galinda and Elphaba, Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel.

Just shy of a month ago, the two performed together for the first time in 12 years, reuniting on the Wicked hit "For Good".

E! News asked Chenoweth if the duo were planning on another collaboration and she smiled, adding "I'm not going to say. It's a secret."

We'll just be crossing our fingers that her secret had something to do with the Wicked movie. In the meantime, the video of their goosebump-raising performance of "For Good" has been shared on Menzel's Facebook.

We'll be keeping ourselves busy watching that over and over again until 2019 rolls around.
