Is Nashville Being Revived by CMT?

ABC canceled the country music drama, but it might be on its way to a new home

All hope might not be lost after all, Nashville fans. 

The canceled ABC drama may be finding new life on CMT—the country music network whose headquarters just happen to be located in Nashville, Tennessee. 

ABC axed the show after four seasons on May 12, and then shocked fans with a cliffhanger ending when the series finale aired nearly two weeks later, partly as a way to encourage another network to pick the show up. 

After the episode, Lionsgate, who produces the show, tweeted "What a cliffhanger! But we won't leave you hanging. There's more story to be told. #BringBackNashville." Now it seems that they weren't just getting our hopes up. 

According to TVLine, CMT is expected to make the announcement during Wednesday's CMT Awards. 

Nashville's finale ended happily for every character, except for Juliette (Hayden Panettiere), who was on a plane on her way to reunite with her daughter and her estranged husband Avery (Jonathan Jackson). In the last 10 seconds of the episode, Avery was informed that Juliette's plane had been lost, and there was no word on whether Juliette was alive or not. 

Before the series was officially canceled at ABC, it had been announced that Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick will be taking over as showrunners for season five, which, according to TVLine, would most likely still be the case if CMT does pick up the show. 

It's unclear whether or not Connie Britton and the rest of the cast would all return for the move to the new network, but fingers crossed that the entire Nashville family will be back to serenade us for many seasons to come.
