Miss USA's 2016 winner Deshauana Barber has had her dream come true.
Barber, who represented Miss District of Columbia at last night's Miss USA pageant, spoke with E! News after the show to discuss her emotional victory.
She says, "I still am waiting for someone to pinch me, I feel like I'm dreaming, I cannot believe this is happening. I broke down during the crowning when they put it on my head and touched it and said, "Ah! it's really there. So, I'm shocked."
The pageant queen, who won over the hearts of the judges to beat out Miss Hawaii and Miss Georgia, seemed genuinely shocked when her name was eventually announced. When asked what was going through her mind in that final moment Barber gushes, "It was so emotional it's been a dream that I've had for a few years now, I've been competing for a long time. I've watched so many Miss USA's walk across this stage and inspire so many women around the world and I knew that it was something I wanted to do, and now that I've had the opportunity it was really hard to hide my emotions."
We're confident Barber is going to be one of those women to inspire others across the world for years to come, especially after hearing about her background serving as a US Army Commander.
When asked during the pageant about what it means to be confidently beautiful, she answered, "Serving in the military has taught me that being confidently beautiful is about being able to earn respect from people regardless of what you look like. As a woman in the military, people associate beauty with weakness and they learn very quickly that I'm extremely strong. And although I'm small, I'm powerful and confidently beautiful is being myself and being very happy with who I've become."
But in case you didn't love her enough already, we asked the newly crowned beauty how she plans to celebrate the big win and she answered in the realest way possible, "Well I've deprived myself of Krispy Kreme Donuts, the glazed cream filling." She adds, " And I don't know if there's a Krispy Kreme in Vegas, but hopefully I can find one and treat myself tonight. I really need to find someone to get me some Krispy Kreme donuts."
