And we don't just mean Donut-Gate.

Donuts in Pop Culture

Have you heard? It's National Doughnut Day. And it's Friday. What a time to be alive.

And while most patriotic Americans will celebrate this holiday by bee lining it to their local doughnut shop (and hopefully missing a significant amount of work in the process), we here at E! are more dedicated than that. We go above and beyond...above and beyond snacking, that is. As your resident pop culture experts, we know that this round delicacy has had its fair share of time in the limelight, on screens both big, small and digital. From movies to TV shows to viral videos, donuts are always there for us.

And so, on this most holy of days, we are going to pay homage to the doughnut in the only way we know how: By reliving our absolute favorite pop culture moments. And yes, we're starting with The Bluths.

Buster's THC Experiment Goes Wrong:

It's a paid medical study in which participants are given crazy amounts of THC (yes, as in the active drug that's in Marijuana). What could go wrong? It turns out, for Buster Bluth, everything. But luckily for us, we got the above amazing scene in which the Arrested Development star climbed on top of a Randy's Donuts to try and score a late-afternoon snack.

Miranda's Weight Watchers Cheat on Sex and the City:

What's a gal to do when she meets a cute guy in her Weight Watchers meeting and they bond over the fact that the one thing they miss most in the world is that feeling of a melt-in-your-mouth glazed doughnut? Waste all your points for the day and split one, of course! And then do some other things that we can't write about without getting in trouble. This was HBO, after all.

Every Meal of Lorelai and Rory's:

If there's one thing Gilmore Girls was good for—besides pithy, fast-paced dialogue and the best theme song of all time—it was questionable nutritional choices. Those Gilmores loved to gorge, most notably on a hot, fresh doughnut from Luke's diner. Now, learn from Rory's mistakes when you want to go back for seconds and thirds at Dunkin later today.

The Mindy Project Speaking the Damn Truth:

Mindy Lahiri is never one to mince words, and most of the things that come out of her mouth are rife for a gospel. But her sheer overwhelming emotion at her doughnut craving is one of the truthiest truthisms she's ever truthed. Preach, girl.

Dexter Morgan's Glazed Distractions:

What better way to convince your coworkers that you are totally normal dude and not a knife kit-wielding serial killer than by becoming The Doughnut Guy? Dexter was infamous around the Miami PD office for bringing in a delicious box of Sadie's whenever the mood strikes—it's just that no one else there realized the mood always strikes when he just killed someone. But we bet it didn't make that jelly filling any less tasty.

Liz Lemon's Lack of Shame:

Leave it Liz Lemon to ask the questions that everyone wants answers to. Like, "Do you think he'd buy me mozzarella sticks?" And "Where is my mac and cheese?" And of course, who could forget "What time do you start throwing out doughnuts?" You have to respect the woman's commitment to frugality; it's almost as honorable as her commitment to night cheese.

Homer Simpson...Everything:

You can't talk about doughnuts in pop culture without mentioning the legendary Homer Simpson. The guy practically invented doughnut addictions. It's really too impossible to pick a favorite moment between Homer and his sprinkle-colored confections, so we'll just let the above image burn into your brains.

Donut-Gate:

TMZ

Who could forget Donut-Gate? Oh, that's right...everybody. But let us remind you of the utter offense that was sought against America one warm July night: Ariana Grande licked a donut. Licked a donut that was then sold to unsuspecting customers! She has since apologized and attempted to right her wrongs, but we'll always have the hilarious memory of the fact that things like that happen in real life. Thank you, Ariana.
