We may never get to see what the future held for Callie Torres and Arizona Robbins after the latter set aside her custody battle win to show a little kindness to the former in the Grey's Anatomy season 12 finale now that Sara Ramirez has chosen to take off Callie's scrubs for good, but at least we know that things behind the scenes on set between the actors were never as acrimonious as they'd become for their characters.

Days after Ramirez stunned fans of the long-running ABC soap by revealing her exit shortly after the season 12 finale finished airing, her co-star Jessica Capshaw is showing the actress nothing but love. And we've got to admit, it's making us miss the good old Calzona days even more.

Shonda Rhimes "Had a Different Plan" for Callie Before Sara Ramirez' Grey's Anatomy Exit

"Congrats on 10 incredible years! I wish @SaraRamirez the very best & I celebrate what Callie has given to all of us," Capshaw tweeted on Monday, reflecting on the loss of her most frequent scene partner for the greater part of her tenure on Grey's.

Linked to in Capshaw's tweet was Ramirez's initial tweet, which left fans stunned when sent out on Thursday. "I'm deeply grateful to have spent the last 10 years with my family at Grey's Anatomy & ABC but for now I'm taking some welcome time off," Ramirez's statement read. "Shonda's been so incredible to work for and we will definitely continue our conversations! I send my Love to Ellen, the rest of the cast & crew, and I look forward to always being a part of the Shondaland family!"

Creator Shonda Rhimes shared a statement the evening of the finale of her own, wishing Ramirez well and reminding her, as well as the fans, that the actress would always have a home at Shondaland. However, over the weekend, the showrunner admitted that Callie's final scene—in which Arizona showed up at her doorstep with two plane tickets to New York to follow girlfriend Penny (Samantha Sloyan) and a promise to find a custody arrangement that would let Callie move across the country—wasn't intended to be the end.

"[Callie's exit] was interesting," Rhimes revealed at Vulture Festival in NYC on Sunday. "It was different because it wasn't a big, planned thing. I had a different plan going and when Sara came and said, 'I really need to take this break,' I was sort of lucky that we had shot the end of the season with her going to New York."
