Kate Beckinsale and Sarah Silverman have officially altered the public perception of Hollywood exes.
Sarah is currently dating Kate's ex, Michael Sheen,with whom the actress also shares a 17-year-old daughter, Lily. Thus, the world went a little crazy in disbelief after the two ladies shared an adorable moment hugging on the red carpet at the premiere of the new film Love & Friendship.
Kate joined the ladies of The Talk and explained why she was so surprised by people's reaction to their friendship. "We get on really well. I mean, I love Sarah," Kate said. "I'd love her if she didn't have anything to do with Michael. I'm just glad Michael found her."
She continued, "I think, especially actors for some reason, they think you're throwing shoes at each other and plotting each other's death. We're not. She's lovely."
One of the most important reasons Kate loves Sarah is because she's a good influence on Lily. "I love that my daughter's got different options than just me," she told the panel of hosts. "Like a good, strong, core woman that isn't necessarily me."
In fact, Kate reciprocated this same feeling in a recent interview with Stylist.
"I'm completely open to any other strong, cool sensitive independent-thinking women who are going to be an influence in my daughter's life," she said. "Sarah's a great person and I'm glad she's in the village that's helping. It's important as a teenager to have good women in your life building up the fabric of your experience of becoming a woman. Even if Sarah wasn't Michael's girlfriend I'd want her to be in that."
Kate also explained that she's "basically family" with Michael and Sarah.
"The thing that surprised me was what a big deal everybody made about us all getting on and then thinking, 'F--k, that's really sad if it's that unusual,'" she admitted. "I don't think any of us were thinking, 'This is a huge achievement we're not punching each other.'"
