And this is why dating a co-worker can get awkward.

Charlize Theron and Sean Penn are at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival premiering their new movie, The Last Face, which would totally be a normal thing to do in the film industry, but given that these two stars had a bad breakup, it has to be especially painful. Penn directed his latest film, which just so happens to be getting panned across the board.

It's bad enough that these two have to pose for pictures together—although they're doing their best do keep their distance—but to have the movie get trashed probably adds insult to injury.

"The Last Face is Sean Penn's version of an Angelina Jolie movie," Variety's Owen Glieberman wrote in his review. "It keeps advertising its compassion, yet it's really a drama about two beautiful movie stars trying to save the world. Who, after all, can't identify with that?"

The Guardian's Benjamin Lee slammed the movie for trying insensitively shed light to an important cause. "[The Last Face is] an extended Band Aid video, shoddily assembled to be screened at galas filled with the guilty elite sipping champagne while frowning at close-ups of tearful orphans," he wrote.

In a photo call for The Last Face, Theron stood on the edge next to costar Javier Bardem, who looked handsome in jeans and a blue blazer. Theron, rocking platinum blond hair, looked gorgeous in a pink flapper frock. Three people over, Penn stood in sneakers and sunglasses. The Huntsman actress opened up about her and Penn's split in WSJ magazine and finally addressed those ghosting rumors.

"There is a need to sensationalize things," she said. "When you leave a relationship there has to be some f--king crazy story or some crazy drama. And the f--king ghosting thing, like literally, I still don't even know what it is. It's just its own beast."

She added, frankly, "We were in a relationship and then it didn't work anymore. And we both decided to separate. That's it."
