The Originals is wrapping up its third season tonight, but star Phoebe Tonkin says the episode might not turn out the way you're expecting it to—at least as far as Hayley and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) are concerned.
The pair finally shared a long-awaited kiss, and yes, Tonkin is rooting for the couple to make it this time.
"The finale is very different to what I think everyone is expecting," Tonkin told E! News on the red carpet at the CW's Upfront presentation yesterday. "It's quite dark…and a little weird. Some weird things happen. I think their relationship is always very complicated and I'm excited for the next season to really explore that."
Tonight's episode will set up what season four will entail—even though we'll have to wait until 2017 for more, since the network pushed the show to midseason.
"I think that the finale is really great because it opens up a lot of doors for the next season, which I'm really excited for. A lot of twists, as always. But I think it just opens up a bit of a different opportunity, creatively, for the fourth season, which I think is really exciting."
And yes, Tonkin is still mourning the two major losses (Davina, played by Danielle Campbell, and Cami, played by Leah Pipes) of the past few weeks—especially since it means she needs to find a few more drinking buddies on set.
"I've still got Riley [Voelkel], but there's not a lot of girls left on the show, sadly! I need more margarita buddies," she laments. "I miss them. And you know what, they both had such amazing final episodes and they just killed it with their performances. It just broke my heart watching them. I think they both went out with a bang equally. I was really proud of them and obviously sad to see them go, but really impressed with their performances."
The Originals season three finale airs tonight at 9 p.m. on the CW.
