Ginger Zee is heading to the finals, and she's opening up along the way.

On Dancing With the Stars' May 16 episode, the Good Morning America meteorologist revealed her battle with anorexia, which she struggled with as a teenager.

And after the semi-finals, Ginger, 35, opened up about why she decided to share her story with viewers, telling E! News she wanted to help others struggling with the disease.

"My advice is this is a choice, this is a choice you can make and there are a lot of amazing parts of life ahead of you," she said. "You can overcome it. It shouldn't control you. You can do this."

During the episode, Ginger said her parents' divorce, which happened when she was seven, "effected" her childhood, explaining, "I needed to control something. I know what I'll do, I'll just not eat."

Of that time in her life when she struggled with anorexia, mainly from ages 10-14, Ginger told us, "I just think all the time, 'What a waste that was. I chose to do that? What a terrible thing?' There are many diseases that choose you, you can choose to get out of it as well."

Fortunately, Ginger was able to overcome the disease, and recently welcomed her first son, Adrian, with husband Ben Aaron in December. And now, she's set to compete for the mirrorball trophy in next week's DWTS finale.

"I'm so grateful that it happened," she said of making it to the finals with partner Val Chmerkovskiy, who stressed, "We're in the finals, but the show's not over. There's still a lot of work to do."

DWTS' finale airs Monday at 8 p.m. on ABC.
