Who Will Die on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.?

Let's examine who's most likely to bite the dust in the season three finale of the ABC series

Ever since Daisy had her cryptic vision, we've known that before season three comes to an end, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be losing one of its own.

With only a glimpse of the future that included a floating cross necklace in a pod out in space to go on, clues about the identity of the soon-to-be deceased are slim, but that doesn't make speculating about the death in the May 17 finale completely impossible. First things first, we can probably rule Coulson (Clark Gregg) out. Our fearless leader's already died once at the hands of Loki in The Avengers—we're pretty sure the writers won't repeat that bit of history. But there's still plenty of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents to consider. And after last night's episode, a few rose to the top of our suspected goners list. Let's break it down.

Daisy

While we'd be surprised if Daisy (Chloe Bennet) met her maker at the end of season three, it's certainly not out of the realm of possibility. The Inhuman is currently under the deadly sway of Hive's (Brett Dalton) parasitic mind control. She's shown a willingness to kill any former S.H.I.E.L.D. allies that get in the way of Hive's endgame. While her hesitation at ripping Mack's heart out during their brawl may offer proof that some part of Daisy is fighting Hive's control over her, her renewed commitment to the cause by offering up her Kree blood to be drained indicates had us yelling, "Daisy, you in danger, girl!" at our screens. If draining her blood doesn't kill her, the show could always go the redemption route and have her sacrifice herself to stop Hive. We're not saying it will happen. We're just saying it could.

Chances of Death: Slim

Leo Fitz & Jemma Simmons

A cliffhanger revolving around Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) has been the go-to for the writers in season finales of past. First, they were sent to the bottom of the ocean. Second, Jemma was sucked into a monolith and send to a whole freaking other planet. After finally getting these two into each other's arms (and into bed), fans might actually riot if their beloved FitzSimmons is torn asunder in the finale with one of their deaths.

Chances of Death: Slim

Melinda May

If you think anyone is killing May (Ming-Na Wen), you're nuts.

Mack

When Mack (Henry Simmons) met Yo-Yo (Natalie Cordova-Buckley) earlier this season, we learned he's religious. Ostensibly, the cross necklace in Daisy's vision could be his. Also, his unwillingness to let Daisy go almost lost him his life last night. While he might have lost plenty of faith in his partner, making him less likely to fight as fiercely for her the next time, he'll always still fight because he's Mack and he's a good guy. That fight could kill him. All that said, he's one of the show's few remaining characters of color and it would be a bad look for the show if we lost him.

Chances of Death: Moderate

Lincoln

Of our series regular S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, Lincoln is certainly the most expendable. His connection to Daisy made him risk his life last night to test FitzSimmons' potential cure, and that sort of recklessness isn't going away anytime soon. As another one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Inhumans, he's at risk for both falling under Hive's sway or dying to stop it from happening to himself. Either way, if it weren't for the final two names on our list, we'd already be preparing to say goodbye...

Chances of Death: High

Joey & Yo-Yo

Juan Pablo Raba and Cordova-Buckley may not be series regular, but their characters Joey and Yo-Yo are both members of S.H.I.E.L.D. Last we saw the Inhumans, they went into hiding after their Secret Warriors leader fell under Hive's control. Considering they wouldn't be very hard to say goodbye to, either one would be a very easy choice for the season finale sacrifice. Add in the fact that Yo-Yo was wearing a cross necklace when the team first met her in Bogota...
