In case you missed it, tonight's Game of Thrones brought us the long-awaited return of Jon Snow (Kit Harington) to the land of the living when he opened his eyes and gasped for breath in the very last seconds of the episode, after being resurrected by Melisandre (Carice Van Houten).
We cheered, we yelled, we poured a nice glass of Game of Thrones beer in his honor, and then we thought for just a second about how many people have told us Jon Snow was dead over the past year.
Even the president of HBO, Michael Lombardo, said "He be dead." Every member of the cast who's been asked about it has told us Jon was dead, and Kit Harington himself has had to repeat the lie over and over and over again.
For the record, Harington is sorry about that.
"I'd like to say sorry for lying to everyone," he told EW, and we guess we accept his apology.
We also find it adorable that Harington feared Jon's death would not make an impact on the show's fans.
"I'm glad that people were upset that he died," he continued. "I think my biggest fear was that people were not going to care, or it was just going to be, fine, Jon Snow's dead, but it seemed like people did have a—similar to the Red Wedding episode—a kind of grief about it, which meant that something I'm doing, or that the show is doing for Jon is right."
We guess Harington couldn't possibly have known that Jon's death would serve as a major conversation piece for many months after the finale last June, and that we would then spend hours analyzing all photos of all cast members and their hairstyles and every moment of teaser footage that we were treated to. Not only has the cast been asked about it nonstop, but we haven't been able to stop talking about it in our own homes.
On one hand, Game of Thrones loves to kill off major characters. But on the other hand, was Jon Snow too major of a character to kill? It was a debate that we could not answer ourselves, and now that it has been answered we actually have no idea what we're going to talk about all day.
