It's time for more awkward moments on Live! With Kelly & Michael...
Michael Strahan seemed a little uneasy after he brought up his ex-wife and Kelly Ripa joked about their divorce during Friday's show. It marked the fourth episode the two have co-hosted since Ripa stepped away from the series for four weekdays after being told Strahan was leaving Live! to concentrate on Good Morning America. Ripa was informed about the shakeup not long before the public was and was reportedly "livid" about being kept in the dark.
On Friday, Ripa talked to Strahan about an article she read about "bird nesting," a parenting technique in which separate parents have their kids live in one home, while they take turns staying with them.
"So you've gotten divorced," Ripa told her co-host, who looked flabbergasted.
He recovered quickly and talked about the article's subject.
"We talked about me locking my bedroom doors yesterday," Strahan said. "If I'm sharing my house with my ex every once in a while and she can get in with a key, at any point, I'm definitely locking the door."
"I'm not going to do it. Maybe I should. Her house is nicer than mine," he joked.
Strahan and his first ex-wife, Wanda Hutchins, divorced in 1996 and share an adult son and daughter. He and second ex-wife Jean Muggli divorced in 2006 and share 11-year-old twin daughters.
Ripa and husband Mark Consuelos, with whom she shares three kids, recently celebrated their 20th anniversary.
The two had also shared an awkward moment talking about his divorce again on Thursday's show, although Strahan was the one who brought up one of his ex-wives.
"I had dogs and I had a Great Dane and I had a pet psychic come over and I didn't get the pet psychic," he said. "My ex-wife got the pet psychic. But then-"
"Is that what led to the divorce?" Ripa interrupted, drawing laughs.
"There were a variety of things," Strahan said, chuckling uncomfortably. "But, you know, great woman. Great mother to the kids. So, um, so, why am I in this position right now? I'm trying to talk about a pet psychic."
"As your attorney, I'd say nothing else," Ripa replied. "Stop right now."
Several viewers have said they can sense tension between the two on Live! following the recent drama.
"If you thought watching Live with Kelly & Michael was tough, try watching it now. Wow. Awkward," one user tweeted Friday.
"The tension between Kelly&Michael today is like Jay Z and [Beyoncé] watching Lemonade. #LEMONADE #KellyandMichael," another person said Thursday.
Also on Thursday, Ripa and Strahan had another awkward moment when she made a joke about contract negotiations during an animal segment.
Following last week's shakeup, ABC said Strahan is set to leave Live! earlier than scheduled, on May 13, and join Good Morning America full-time, following a current part-time gig, in September.
The network is expected to replace Strahan on Live! and viewers speculate that his replacement will be a former guest host, as he was. Fan-favorites include CNN's Anderson Cooper, who called such a Live! gig a "dream," and Watch What Happens Live host Andy Cohen, who may have a bit too much on his plate to take on another job.
