Dory is on a personal and important mission in Finding Dory...and hopefully she'll remember enough to complete it.

Ellen DeGeneres reprises her role as the forgetful tang fish in the Disney-Pixar movie, which is set six months after the events of Finding Nemo and mostly takes place at the Marine Biology Institute of California, where Dory was born. She currently lives with Nemo and his dad Marlin in a coral reef in the ocean.

When she and her buddy go on a field trip to the institute, she recalls memories of her past and family...namely, that she has one...and seeks to find her parents, Jenny and Charlie, portrayed by Diane Keaton and Eugene Levy.

"My family! Have to find them!" she yells frantically, as seen in a new teaser released Thursday. "They're...blue with, maybe, yellow."

"Mom! Dad!" she yells again, swimming towards a group of blue tang fish in a tank.

The ever-sarcastic and sharp Marlin, voiced by returning star Albert Brooks, half-jokes to his son, "We should just pick two and let's go."

Dory's parents, who are indeed identical blue tang fish, are shown in previous trailers for Finding Dory. But oddly, they do not have their daughter's memory lapses.

"Both parents have a certain amount of absentmindedness, there's a flavor of that," co-director and screenwriter Andrew Stanton told USA Today. "There's a flightiness, almost an Annie Hall la-di-da quality to Diane that you just want to believe was part of Dory's DNA. And Eugene brings a nerdy, dorky, lovable quality."

"Charlie is a good dad who thinks of himself as having a great sense of humor, though it's probably not the sharpest," Levy said. "They make for a cute couple, if 'cute' is the appropriate word for a fish couple."

In Finding Dory, newcomer Hayden Rolence portrays Nemo. Alexander Gould, best known for playing Shane Botwin in Weeds, originally voiced the character.

During the fish's trip to the institute, Dory also runs into some old friends.

Idris Elba and Dominic West as sea lions Fluke and Rudder and Kaitlin Olson as a whale shark named Destiny. Also, Modern Family stars Ed O'Neill and Ty Burrell play an octopus named Hank and a beluga whale named Bailey. Bill Hader and Kate McKinnon also make cameos.

Other returning stars include Bob Peterson as Mr. Ray, Bennett Dammann as the sea turtle Squirt and Stanton as his dad Crush.

Finding Dory is set for release on June 17.
