Let the record show Melissa McCarthy thinks fans of Gilmore Girls will not be disappointed with the revival.
"I went back for a set visit and to see all the sets and everybody back in those shoes again—I got really sentimental. It was nice," she told E! News at the Time 100 gala. "I think [fans] are going to be really happy. I think they're going to be thrilled."
McCarthy was an honoree at the Time 100 gala and said it was "remarkable" and she felt like her parents set up the whole thing.
After much back and forth—seriously, there were interviews and tweets for weeks wherein Gilmore Girls producers said McCarthy was too busy, McCarthy said she was never asked, etc.—McCarthy officially announced in April that she would return to Stars Hollow once more as Sookie St. Jame
"There has been something that I have been asked about so, so many times and it hasn't worked out and there is… they're making four new movies of the Gilmore Girls which is a show which was near and dear to my heart...and we could not get those schedules to work. And there was a whole thing. And then I was gonna be out of the country and blah, blah, blah. And literally about an hour and half ago we figured out that I'm gonna go back and do it and I am so excited. And they are gonna be amazing," McCarthy told Ellen DeGeneres on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. "Amy Sherman-Palladino is going to squeeze me in to do it and I'm very happy to go back to Stars Hollow...I'm just really excited about that. So it just happened and I got asked a lot about it and as of not even two hours ago it's happening."
Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino told EW there was "nothing malicious going on."
"We've just put it out into the universe; we're here until May 10. I know what the scene is. I'll pre-light it for her. She can drive up, run in, shoot it, and run out. I can get her in and out in two hours," she said before the deal between Gilmore Girls and McCarthy was worked out.
McCarthy joins many of the show's returning cast members in the revival, including Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Kelly Bishop, Scott Patterson, Matt Czuchry, Jared Padalecki and Milo Ventimiglia. Newcomers to the cast include Graham's Parenthood daughter Mae Whitman and Younger's Sutton Foster. Foster and Sherman-Palladino teamed for the short-lived Bunheads.
No premiere date for the four 90-minute Gilmore Girls movies has been announced by Netflix.
