Medicine was a little bit different in 1700s France. In this exclusive clip from this week's episode of Outlander, Claire (Caitriona Balfe) has a new job, and she puts her healing skills to use by diagnosing a woman with "sugar sickness," which seriously impresses her new friend and mentor, Mother Hildegarde (Frances de la Tour).

"I have never seen a woman who knew the science of urinoscopy," Mother Hildegarde says in awe (or in as much awe as Mother Hildegarde can muster).

This week's episode of Outlander, "Usefeul Occupations and Deceptions," finds Claire struggling with both her new knowledge that Black Jack Randall is still alive, and a feeling of boredom that has developed during her time in Paris. That's why she decides to volunteer her services at L'Hopital des Anges, and becomes acquainted with Mother Hildegarde.

Meanwhile, Jamie continues buddying up to the important members of the French court in his efforts to change the course of history, and makes an important new friend.

Outlander airs Saturdays at 9 p.m. on Starz.
