Sometimes we don't always want to know how our parents (and grandparents) spend their free time, but when it comes to what they're up to on Facebook, we're a bit curious. We remember the golden days when FB was only for college students. Mom, dad, granny and pop-pop couldn't see that photo of you doing a keg stand at a frat party, and that was glorious. Motherboard alludes to the fact that those days are long gone and says aging adults are signing up for Facebook faster than any other age group.

It might be safe to say that Facebook is officially for older people. That's not a bad thing, however. What they're doing on the social site is actually quite endearing. A study published in Computers and Behavior, done by researchers at Penn State, observed senior citizens over the age of 60, to see if there were any similarities between the way they and younger users used Facebook. If you're FB friends with your elders, you've probably been inundated by grandmas inspirational wall posts.

Chances are your father signs all 90 of his daily Facebook chat messages to you with "Love, Dad" even though you know very well who's on the other end. Our guess as to why? The study discovered our elders spend most of their time chatting and posting on walls. Researchers also found four main reasons older people enjoy the site; "social bonding, social bridging, curiosity, and responding to family member requests." Awwwww. Motherboard says our elders also really enjoy using the Like button. Perhaps, with all the likes, posts and messages, it's time to thank our parents for making us look so popular on Facebook. Thanks, fam!
