Daaamn, Merriam-Webster sure sipped on a giant, steaming cup of sass before logging onto Twitter!

Earlier this week, the nerdiest and tamest Twitter war broke out, and the fact that it was between two social media accounts for dictionaries made this feud one for the history books. Was this more entertaining than any celeb Twitter fight? We'll just say this since we're talking about dictionaries: if you look up the definition for "best social media spat ever," there will be a photo of these tweets next to it.

So, Dictionary.com tweeted a quote from author Abigail Reynolds next to an Instagram-esque photo of a woman holding a cup of coffee. The quote read: "I like my coffee with cream and my literature with optimism." Aw, that's nice, isn't it?

Well, Merriam-Webster sure didn't think so. There must be some past beef between these two that nobody knows about because M-W swooped in with a an order of sass, extra mustard:

"There's no cream in that coffee," they tweeted in response to Dictionary.com's photo.

OH. SNAP. One dictionary account calling out another for their slightly inaccurate picture of coffee? Step aside, Vanderpump Rules cast. This is the kind of drama we're looking for.

The out-of-nowhere burn from M-W was so delicious, and Twitter lost their damn minds.

If you weren't following dictionary-based social media accounts before, maybe it's time to rethink that strategy. We would live for these two getting into polite fights every week. LIVE. FOR. IT.

But it looks like Dictionary.com didn't really mind the coffee shade, because they took the high road and tweeted that M-W was "absolutely right" about the lack of cream and we can't believe we're typing this sentence so we're just going to stop.

So all is well in the world of Twitter accounts about dictionaries. Phew!
