Prince William and Kate Middleton visited Kaziranga National Park Wednesday in order to learn more about the global efforts of conservation. The royal couple landed in the area Tuesday evening where they were greeted with traditional hand-woven scarves and Assamese dancers. Afterwards, Prince William and Kate made their way to Kaziranga, which is home to the largest population of one-horned rhinos as well as other endangered species. They entered the area looking casual, with Prince William dressed in his best safari gear (sunglasses, brown button down, etc.) and Kate wearing a simple polka-dotted button down.
While visiting the 185-square-mile park, Wills and Kate learned about the successfully growing rhino population as well as the efforts being taken to curb poaching. They also took a jeep safari through the park, where Kate pet and fed an elephant and a rhino. Naturally, she looked gorgeous while doing so! While meeting with her new animal friends, Kate donned a flowing long-sleeved dress that was decorated with pink flowers and a black design around the hem and on the sleeves.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were expected to make a statement on the issue of poaching. "The British royals' visit will certainly increase the level of awareness on rhino conservation," said Bibhab Kumar Talukdar, who heads the local wildlife protection group Aaranyak.
The royals have had a jam-packed week while touring India and are set to leave for Bhutan Thursday morning. Already they've toured India's national war memorial in Mumbai, where Kate and her hubby laid down a wreath. Although she had a Marilyn Monroe-esque fashion faux pas, Kate kept her cool and remained as graceful as ever.
Prince William and Kate then tried their hand at making some dosas, a traditional Indian treat, but they were lucky enough to have the help of a Dosamatic machine.
The royals' trip to India has been a long time coming, according to Prince William. "When Catherine and I were married, India was the first place on Catherine's list that she told me that she wanted to visit," he said Sunday during a Bollywood-inspired charity gala. "Two children and five years later, we have finally made it—and we are both honored to be here."
