Ciara is a woman who knows exactly what she wants, and that means in every area of her life.

The singer covers the latest issue of Essence and spoke to the magazine about how she had a specific list of traits she wanted in a partner and kept those in mind before meeting her husband-to-be, Russell Wilson.

"I remember telling my friend the guy I wanted: a God fearing-man with a very fun spirit who loves kids and would really, truly care for me. I was very specific because I do believe you can have it all," she revealed.

Ciara also added that she kept a "goal sheet" before her career in the music industry first began and that her dreams came true by the time she was in her early twenties.

But there was one thing that didn't go exactly according to her plan, or so it seemed—her breakup with her son Future's father.

"That wasn't necessarily part of my vision, but the moment I realized I was going to be a single mother, I had to reflect and reorganize my thoughts. I decided to trust that God had a plan for me, and move forward one day at a time."

And now that the R&B star is engaged to the professional athlete, Ciara gushed about how excited she is for her wedding day and her future with Wilson.

"Marriage is something I look forward to. I believe in family, and the beauty of two people committing to spend their lives together. We talk about everything," Ciara told the mag.

"To me, to both of us, that's the foundation you need for love to flourish and reach its highest place. I want to live with as much lightness as possible, so I can stay focused on my love of God, and being the best mom, and the best person, I can be."

Speaking about being the best, Ciara sure made her mother happy with her Essence cover and she took to Instagram to explain why.

"My mom told me she's been waiting 10 years for me to be on the cover of @Essence! Lol. Momma it happened! Haha. So cool."
