It's a whole new ballgame when Outlander picks back up in season two.

Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie's (Sam Heughan) little foray into the French court of Louis XV will introduce them—and us—to a whole bunch of new friends and new enemies on the road to changing history.

When E! News spoke with the stars at the show's New York premiere, Balfe gave us a little preview of some of Claire's new alliances and one of the season's big villains.

"Quite quickly, we meet Comte St. Germain (Stanley Weber) who, again, Claire gets herself into trouble by speaking before she thinks," Balfe says. "He's a very dark character and possibly much more dangerous than we first see."

Comte St. Germain will come into the picture almost as soon as Claire and Jamie set foot in France, and that dastardly wine merchant will continue to be a problem throughout the first half of the season. He is not, of course, the only villain we'll see this year. Some will be new, and some will be not so new, as Balfe teases.

"And then there may be some people who we've met before who may be around, so we'll see."

Fortunately, it seems that Claire may actually have more allies than enemies this season, thanks to a few more new faces.

Louise de Rohan, played by Claire Sermonne, is provides some much-needed comic relief in the midst of all the strategizing and political intrigue, but she also has an unexpectedly important role to play in the Jacobite movement that Claire and Jamie are trying to prevent.

Claire also has a friend in Master Raymond, who's played by Dominique Pinon. He's a bit of a heretic and not exactly respected by many members of French society, but that just makes him exactly the kind of person Claire would end up befriending.

Frances de la Tour also appears this season as Mother Hildegarde, the nun who runs the hospital where Claire volunteers. She becomes a sort of adviser to Claire, especially when it comes to how things work in the French court.

Other new characters we'll meet this season include the sweet (and important) Mary Hawkins (Rosie Day), Black Jack's less evil brother Alex (Laurence Dobiesz), Jamie's cousin Jared (Robert Cavanah), the Duke of Sandringham (Simon Callow), King Louis XV himself (Lionel Lingelser), and the charming Bonnie Prince Charlie, played by Andrew Gower

Watch the video above to hear more from Balfe and Heughan, and stay tuned all week for more Outlander coverage than you'll even know what to do with.

Outlander premieres Saturday, April 9 at 9 p.m. on Starz.
