Daisy Ridley blew everyone away in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but it's her audition tape that will really knock your socks off.
When fans first heard of the blockbuster's casting, they probably thought, "Who is Daisy Ridley and will she be good?" They probably wondered what directed J.J. Abrams saw in her considering she didn't have a stacked résumé, but now we know what he witnessed because Buzzfeed has released her try out.
"What we were looking for was someone new," Abrams explains in the clip. "This character needed to be vulnerable and tough, sweet and terrified. And to find someone that no one knew who could do all these things took a lot of looking."
Abrams had Ridley read the scene where Rey comes face to face with Kylo Ren and has to use the Force to prevent him from reading her mind. While the scene was incredibly intense in the movie, Ridley gave Abrams all the feels when she started crying while simply auditioning.
"I guarantee he would have disappointed you," Kylo Ren tells her in the scene.
"Get out my head," she responds, crying.
When Abrams watched her cry over and over again, he was left stunned. "She just blew my mind," he explains. "She's reaching this depth of struggle, and tears are streaming down her face, I thought, 'This is unbelievable.'"
No wonder she got the part! Little did she know she and John Boyega would immediately become fan favorites. The behind-the-scenes feature will be part of the film's digital HD and Blu-Ray combo pack, available April 1 and April 5, respectively. Other features include deleted scenes (think Kylo Ren in the Millenium Falcon) and interviews with the movie's cast and filmmakers.
