In celebration of this very intense moment in time, we decided to analyze their journeys to solo stardom. We compared their dating lives, their very first singles, and everything in between. 1. Zayn leaving One Direction v. Nick breaking out from the Jonas Brothers. Who turned the world upside down the most with their departure? I mean, I think we all know the answer to this. Zayn leaving 1D was literally the equivalent of the world ending, as the tweet above will have you know. His departure was so traumatic to fans, his one-year absence has its own hashtag on Twitter today. Winner: Zayn. Hands down.
2. Zayn's first solo single v. Nick's first solo single. We have to admit, this is a really tough call. While Zayn made major waves with Gigi Hadid in "Pillowtalk," Nick surprised us all by showing off his bad boy side in "Chains." Simply for that reason, we have to call Nick the winner of this round.
3. Zayn's famous girlfriends v. Nick's famous girlfriends. It's no secret both of them have a thing for models. Nick dated Olivia Culpo, and Zayn is currently linked to Gigi. While Zayn has an engagement under his belt, Nick has been tied to numerous celeb lady-friends since his Jo-Bro days. Winner: Both. Their oddly similar taste in models paired with their never-boring love lives makes them both winners in the dating game.
4. Zayn shirtless v. Nick shirtless. Damn. This is a tough call. They each have amazing wonder-bods, so it was difficult to choose a winner. While Zayn satisfies all of our tatted-up, bad boy needs, we have to hand it to Nick strictly on the basis of those bulging arm muscles. Literally one arm is bigger than the size of our head. Who has an inhaler for us?
5. Zayn's Instagram v. Nick's Instagram. It's no secret Zayn is all about his bad boy image when it comes to posting on Insta. Nick, on the other hand seems to have a bit of a jokey, softer side to him. While we love that Nick doesn't take himself super seriously on his Instagram, we're crowning Zayn the winner of this one. We're a sucker for his artsy black-and-white page.
6. Zayn's new album v. Nick's new video. Last but not least, it all boils down to these events. As we were saying, both solo artists dropped new material today, and we can't help but wonder who made a bigger splash. Nick dropped his video for "Close" while Zayn released his new album Mind of Mine. On one hand, Nick doesn't have a trending Twitter hashtag right now like Zayn does. On the other hand, how can you even compare an entire album to one music video? For that reason, we're crowning both guys winners here. These two have a unique musical style all their own which makes comparing their work nearly impossible. Likewise, both have been amazing to watch develop into solo artists, and we're equally as excited to see what they will bring to the table in the future. Congrats on your solo success, guys!
